Father Sully Guillaume-Sam

About Fr. Sully

Reverend Father Sully Guillaume-Sam is a devoted husband, father of three sons, and a priest in the Episcopal / Anglican Church. Born and raised in Haiti, West Indies, he attended school and received two Bachelor’s degrees: one in Theology from the Roman Catholic Seminary (Grand Seminaire Notre Dame) and the other in Sociology from the State University of Haiti.

Fr. Sully is keenly aware, that the local churches must be relevant to the people of their neighboring communities to be impactful and bring about change. It is with this understanding and vision that he’s dedicated his service to fostering better relationships and partnerships between his local church and its neighboring community.

Fr. Sully firmly believes in the benefits of education, using any opportunity to encourage young people to remain in school and obtain college degrees that will equip them in serving others.

Fr. Sully believes that regardless of the many cultures and differences around us, there are many areas of life where we all can connect, understand each other, agree, work, and build together. Though he remains deeply Haitian, Fr. Sully sees himself as a citizen of the world and a brother to all human beings.

Fr. Sully is fluent in Haitian Creole, French, and English and has extensive experience working with and ministering to people from diverse backgrounds. The Church of St. Thomas, where he was the chief pastor, is home to people from nineteen different countries and cultural backgrounds.

Community Activities and Missions/Outreach

Fr Sully is an avid supporter of community actions needed to better the communities surrounding the local church.  He takes pride in being an activist  and leading the voice to be heard.

During his time at St Thomas Episcopal Church in Bushwick Brooklyn he was instrumental in several community actions.

Some activities he had his hands in includes:

  • Assisted in organizing a Baby Clothes Summit – which continues today providing baby clothes and supplies to newborn parents.
  • Launching the Bushwick Business – where a group of local businesses was introduced to each other and was able to voice their concerns and needs in the community.
  • He  led St Thomas Episcopal Church to support the community by opening their doors to help Bushwick families displaced by a recent  massive fire to receive clothes, and supplies at relief drive.  Click here to view the news report
  • Supported a rally at the Governor’s Manhattan office, where the East Brooklyn Congregation (EBC) members stood alongside hundreds of housing activists, united in a resounding call for 100% affordable housing in Queens.
  • Push for the traffic light needed on the intersection  corner where the local seniors home (Duncan Genns) is located.
With a heart for the people in his community Fr Sully continues to lead and educate everyone of the needs of the neighborhood and bring the right people and politicians that can be of assistance.
